English has become an essential component of engineering education
and professional development. In the rapidly changing world of
engineering, students are expected not only to possess technical
knowledge but also to communicate effectively in English in
academic, professional, and international contexts. Engineers
frequently use English to read technical references, write reports,
explain procedures, participate in meetings, deliver presentations,
collaborate with international teams, and communicate engineering
ideas.
This book, English for Engineering: Curriculum and Practice, is
designed as a practical and curriculum-oriented English learning
resource for engineering students. The book integrates English
language development with engineering-related contexts, enabling
students to develop communicative competence while applying
English to authentic academic and professional situations.
The curriculum presented in this book emphasizes the integration of
language skills, technical vocabulary, academic communication,
professional communication, and engineering practices. Learning
activities are designed to encourage students to read, write, listen,
speak, collaborate, solve problems, and communicate technical
information effectively.
The book also adopts a competency-oriented approach in which
learning outcomes are connected to students’ academic and
professional needs. Each unit provides relevant language input,
engineering contexts, examples, guided activities, individual and
collaborative exercises, and practical tasks. Students are encouraged
to apply English in situations that reflect the communication
demands of future engineering workplaces.
The authors hope that this book will support lecturers in
implementing English courses within engineering programs and help
students develop the confidence and competence necessary to
communicate effectively in English. Constructive suggestions and
feedback are welcome for the continued improvement of this book.
